Is it a bad idea to crush up medicine?
I know there are some medications that are time released and require your stomach acids to dissolve the coating slowly and therefore should not be ingested this way. But I have such a difficult time 1. remembering to take my pills and 2. actually swallowing them.
The two I NEED to take every day aren't much of a problem honestly, but I have about 4 vitamins that I take along with them, a couple of which are rather large and begin to hurt my throat and get stuck.
I bought a blender and a mortar and pestle so I could crush my vitamins and put them in smoothies, but I began reading that for some meds it is a bad idea to do this.
I just was wondering if anyone else did this and what specific pills should NOT be taken this way.
I definitely will ask my doctor and/or pharmacist before continuing this long-term, but I can't get to either anytime soon so I thought I would ask around.
Thanks much.
